If you’re looking for rich history, colorful architecture and diverse culture with a Caribbean flair – Havana, Cuba is the place for you! There’s no better place to mix and mingle over una cerveza with the locals. This is also a great place for a weekend digital detox, because wifi is scarce – although keep your camera handy for the amazing photo ops! Be sure to pack good walking shoes to explore the town and also take a ride in one of their classic vintage cars. Although we felt safe while in Havana, just like when traveling to any foreign country, make sure to exercise caution and check travel advisories before you visit.
Fairbanks is Alaska’s second largest city and one of the best places in the US for breathtaking views of the Northern Lights. We think every traveler’s bucket list should include this natural, stunning phenomenon. For US travelers, this is a great place to visit if you want to stay domestic but also feel off the grid. The best time to see the Aurora Borealis is August – April and if you go during the winter months, it is no secret that it will be freezing. We suggest taking advantage of the views from the natural outdoor hot springs! Another Alaskan tradition to partake in is authentic dog mushing – you can take a dog sledding excursion and experience the thrill firsthand and there is no better place than Fairbanks!
Tulum, Mexico, situated on the Caribbean coast of the Riviera Maya, is known for its beautiful white-sand beaches, laid-back vibes, and rich Mayan culture. Stay close to the beach for an ultra-relaxing getaway but make sure to visit downtown for the best authentic Mexican food, done right by the locals. Spend a morning visiting the ruins overlooking the ocean, and when you’re done exploring, take a quick dip. Be sure to visit at least one cenote (natural sinkholes created where a cave ceiling collapsed). There you’ll find mesmerizing underwater cave systems where you can typically snorkel, scuba dive and even free-dive.
If observing wildlife in its natural habitat is the adventure you’re seeking, then Northern Kenya in East Africa should be on your bucket list! Stay in a tented camp and sleep under the stars at the Loisaba Conservancy with breathtaking views of Mt. Kenya. Take a safari and spend time in the grasses of the Serengeti. See elephants roam and herds of buffalo, zebras, giraffes, leopards and cheetahs among the 56,000 acre wildlife conservancy. This trip will revive your mind and rejuvenate your body.
Madeira Beach, Florida
Madeira Beach, Florida is the perfect place for families, couples or a solo trip to unwind and relax. Bordered to the west by the Gulf of Mexico and east of St. Petersburg, Mad Beach is known for its great fishing, beautiful beaches, laid-back atmosphere and pastel sunsets. Also home to John’s Pass Village and Boardwalk along the Intracoastal, you’ll find plenty of waterfront restaurants, beach bars, shops and even an arcade for kids. Take advantage of the fresh catch of the day, or hop on a fishing charter and catch and cook your own. This low-key beach has soft white sand and warm clear water, and isn’t overly crowded – perfect for a relaxing beach getaway.
